Gang Prevention and Intervention
Impact One Community Connection has Street Outreach Specialists (SOS) who work in a variety of locations throughout North Omaha. The Street Team has developed relationships with at-risk youth and young adults in the community. Through these relationships we are able to assess their needs and provide immediate assistance. The Street Team often serves as mediators between parties in conflict. We intervene, offer conflict resolution and are often able to prevent retaliation. Impact One’s goal is to reduce and prevent violence in our community.
Street Outreach Specialists provide direct gang intervention and prevention to at-risk youth in the community. We work with a variety of individuals who are in the streets and often involved in negative behaviors and actions. We guide them away from these negative activities and move them towards positive endeavors, such as employment and education opportunities.
The Street Team provides gang intervention and prevention to students within the Omaha Public Schools System. We work closely with many OPS students to help deter them from trouble. Once the school year concludes, these students participate in our Great Summer Jobs Program. This allows us the opportunity to have year-round contact with the students and provide continued support.
Emergency Response: We currently have a team assigned to address emergency situations that occur within the community. The Emergency Response Team focuses on direct street mediation, prevention of gang retaliation, hospital and home visits, court assistance, funeral and family support. We utilize our relationships with community partners to address these issues and connect community residents with available services.
